back at the homestead

My mom and I are back and Chris is gone!  We literally passed each other in the skies.  He’s away for a quick trip and will be back Sunday.  Between now + then my mom and I are going to be busy!!  We’re trying to get a few things wrapped up to surprise Chris when he returns home.

1 sweet thing that happened today.

The Greyrock Concrete guys were back today, to deliver + install our last counter piece!

I was extremely nervous about this piece, because of the stones I laid into the mixture.  I had no idea if it was going to turn out the way I envisioned it!

They also added a marbled effect, using 2 different shades of gray.  One matches our existing counters and one is darker.

I absolutely love the outcome.  The rock addition was my idea, but adding them in off-center was Chris’s idea.  They line up perfectly with the wall below..

It would have looked goofy to add them in on the center of the concrete piece, because the concrete is off-center to begin with.  We only have about 2” hanging into the kitchen side and about 6” hanging into the dining room.  The rocks line up perfectly with the arched wall that we added a few months back.

To further accentuate the continuation of the wall, we even brought the rocks down the side.

The counter is still dusty in these photos, so it’s a little hard to see the marbling effect.  Aside from the marbling, it was also sanded it down to add a grittier look.  It’s a subtle, but nice contrast with the kitchen counters.  I found all of the rocks at a local nature store.  It took me forever to pick them all out!

After Steve + Greg left my mom and I got to work.  We made a big shopping trip, that included:

  • home depot
  • the bank
  • bed bath and beyond
  • target
  • kohls
  • super target
  • lowes
  • whole foods

I’m sure we’ll be back returning + buying other things at about half of those stores tomorrow as well.

Oy.

Then we played the comforter game again!  My mom said that the green, leafy comforter was much nicer in person and even though it was polyester had a great feel to it.

We both hemmed + hawed.  Don’t mind the door in front of the window.  I put it there since we don’t have blinds. ;)

Ultimately, I think my heart was set on the quilt.  The leafy pattered comforter was nice, but had too much white.

We finally decided it was going back to Target!

We worked on a HUGE list of “to-do’s.”  This included things to shop for, do in the house, eat, and see.  Of course when we actually went out on our shopping trip I forgot the list at home.

Typical!  There were other notes like door measurements on the back too.  Ugh!  Hence our second trip out tomorrow.

One good find today…

safety treads for the bathtub!  I bought a vinyl suction mat the other week and it smelled terrible.  I try to stay away from vinyl products as much as possible, but didn’t see any other option at a few stores.  Today we went to a different Bed, Bath and Beyond and they had a few non-vinyl solutions.  This was my favorite, because there is no actual mat.

Ending a post on safety treads?  Enthralling, no?

Our eats were pretty simple + quick today, but will hopefully get a bit more exciting in days to come. :)

Time to rest up and hopefully hit the gym in the morning!
