vibram 5 fingersbarefoot

I wanted to create a specific page for questions, photos, concerns, comments, etc. regarding Vibram 5 Fingers.  I have been getting questions about these on a daily basis and would love to organize all of the information here.  My intention is that it is a pool of information from not only me but YOU.  I would love to hear about your experiences, good or bad.

Tell me about the gross new calluses you have on your feet or about how you love that your shins aren’t throbbing in pain anymore :)

Have photos sporting your VFF’s?  Email them to edibleperspective AT gmail DOT com

New to the idea of Vibram 5 Fingers?

My Reviews

My Favorite 5finger info!

And while you’re at it…a book you just HAVE to read…highly approved by the huz and I am 1/4 of the way through!  Just check out the reviews on this baby!

Born To Run – Christopher McDougall

Some of my favorite snippets on feet + shoes

“Well, I’m afraid I have some bad news for you: You walk wrong.  Look, it’s not your fault. It’s your shoes. Shoes are bad. I don’t just mean stiletto heels, or cowboy boots, or tottering espadrilles, or any of the other fairly obvious foot-torture devices into which we wincingly jam our feet. I mean all shoes. Shoes hurt your feet.” [source]

“But we’re good at running barefoot. We’re not good at running in marshmallow-based shoes with padding, support, and protection. In fact, we get injured because of these shoes. There is some data that shows, in fact, that the more expensive the running shoe the worse it is for your feet and legs. I knew something was wrong when my feet would fall asleep while I was running. Something was up.” [source]

  • I’m easing into my VFF’s – liking them so far. (will email you a pic)

I love “Born to Run” also … I heard/saw the author speak at a local college – great guy, enjoyed hearing some more details that weren’t in the book.

My husband bought some of these a few years ago and wore them all around the desert during his deployment. I laughed at his “frog feet”, so he started teaching me about the benefits of running ‘barefoot’. I still haven’t tried it, but I’m seriously considering it now.

  • Saw your comment over at Angela’s site. I just bought VFF’s and ran 1 mile in them for the first time yesterday. Also, “Born to Run” is being shipped from Amazon as we speak, (and I hope it arrives today)!

It’s great to find like-minded people. I’ll share more info when I get more experience with them!

  • My Father is going to buy me a pair of the Sprints today for an early birthday present :D Way too excited about this – I’ll send a picture your way this afternoon!

  • I absolutely love Born To Run! I read it when it first hit the shelves and probably 3 more times since. I love going back to it when I feel frustrated after a bad run, or just need some extra inspiration. I find it so calming and motivating at the same time. The book also inspired me to buy VFF and I am in love with them! Haha! I heard Vibrams was supposed to be releasing a new running pair this spring but I haven’t checked the website yet to see if they did.

  • Thanks for setting up this page! I can’t wait to get myself a pair of VFF, but I want to try to do it in a store so I don’t have to risk paying return shipping if they don’t fit right.

  • I’m glad to have found another 5 Finger fan! The only shoes my husband has been wearing for the past 2 years are 5 Fingers. He has three pairs, one of which he uses for hiking. Wherever we go, the shoes are always a real show stopper – people’s reactions have ranged from blatantly staring and pointing to giggling and two thumbs up. Most people want to know where you can buy them and everyone always comments on how comfortable they must be. The other day we were waiting for the train at a subway station, and this lady came up and asked if she could take a picture of my husband’s shoes! That was a first. :-)

Love your blog and your food philosophy!

Ahhh this is awesome. Thanks so much for your comment! I totally know what you mean. They are definitely a show stopper. I have people ask me about them ALL of the time. Even the mail man!! He said he wanted a pair. Love it :)

  • [...] Yep, you guessed it! Vibram Five Fingers! I have been researching them for a few months and am very excited to start wearing them. I’m planning on hiking, biking, wearing them to the gym, and running in them. Although if you get a pair of Vibrams it is advised that you start out slowly so you do not injure your feet. If you want more information on them check out Ashley’s page. [...]

  • I’ve been wearing VFFs to train for over 5 months. I went from running a 6:32 mile to a 5:17 mile. I also have crazy leg muscles, which were never visible before. I absolutely love running and lifting in them, and will never wear tennis shoes again.

  • Hi Ashley!!

It’s been a while! I started emailing you a few months back about creating my own blog about vegan cooking and then of course that’s right when I got a job so I haven’t had the time to invest in it. Buuuuut my boyfriend, Keagan, took it upon himself, while he’s waiting for his dissertation for his Physiotherapy MSc to pass ethics approval, to create a website about his topic: BAREFOOT RUNNING!!! Thought you, and maybe your running readers might like to check it out.

He’s actually been asked to speak at the 2012 Olympics in London (since we’re in Scotland) and he’ll be touring the country to speak with the Human Race Project Expo that is being tagged on to the Olympics as well. So if anyone is interested in some serious research about barefoot running but isn’t into reading hardcore research papers (like me haha), this is the site to check out.

Hope you’re doing well and keep on running everyone!! :D

  • Okay, I had to chime in because I LOVE my FiveFingers. Two years ago I was in despair because I couldn’t run more than four or five miles, tops, without tons of knee pain and hobbling for a couple of days afterwards. I met a couple of ultramarathoners who extolled the virtues of their VFFs and I figured ‘why not.’ I am now happily running a few times a week, did three triathlons and a half-marathon in the past year. I’ll never go back to ‘real’ running shoes.

  • I just discovered your blog from Peas and Thank You. I am loving it (I’ve spent like an hour on it tonight!)…I honestly get emotional about barefoot…it has changed my life. Have you tried Merrils or Vivos?! I love them now too. Anyways, I look forward to reading many more posts!

  • I have been so tempted to buy a pair for myself, I ran a half in December and saw so many runners wearing these…I’m very intrigued. May have to go try a pair on this week….
